Some People to
Remember
There have been some people that have passed away that
deserve mentioning. If for no other reason than to just be remembered,
for someday this will also be our legacy to those that follow.
I mentioned Ray Pitts and his contribution with the National
Semiconductor/Sensym Transducer Handbook. In the dedication to the 1977
Handbook the dedication reads "This book is dedicated to the man whose
endeavors made it possible, but who will not see it in print- Richard J.
Billette." Dick worked with Art Zias at Honeywell SSEC during the
sixties and at National Semiconductor in the early seventies. He died on
the job at National. He was Art's right arm and one of his closest personal
friends.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Dan Dooley. Dan was a founder
of Precision Monolithics Inc. and was the person I worked for at National
Semiconductor that took the risk on transferring me from marketing to run
the Transducer Group. Up until his death he had been assisting ISS with
their startup.
John Finch, vice president of National Semiconductor
while I was there supported our leverage buyout of the Transducer Group.
John was an incredible athlete, at over forty years of age he ran a two
hour, thirty second marathon and a four minute, thirty second mile. He
died in his fifties while training for a triathlon.
Barry Block, February 7, 2000. Barry and Art Zias were
business partners and friends for many years. Art's quotation in the San
Jose Mercury News regarding Barry.."Barry was the most prolific inventor
in the technology known today as MEMS."
